Instagram is now introducing a video selfie identification system to curb the prevalence of spam and bot accounts on the platform.
Just like other social media platforms, Instagram allows users to create multiple accounts with different email addresses. This makes it possible for bots to create an insane number of accounts.
Although, trial of this feature was rolled out about a year ago, it got discontinued due to some technical issues. It’s really been a challenge solving this issues of bot and spam in social media platforms.
Instagram team on Twitter disclosed that accounts with suspicious behaviour could be requested to upload a video selfie. However, the selfie system does not use any facial recognition technology but rather the videos are reviewed by Instagram teams to validate if the user is real.
